House extensions in Reading

Local team. Local knowledge.

We design and build extensions for Reading's Victorian and Edwardian terraces, 1930s semis and modern family estates — rear kitchen-diners, side returns, wraparounds and double-storey additions that give families the room they need without moving. Every extension is matched to the brickwork, roof and style of the house it joins.

From Victorian terraces in central Reading to family homes in Caversham, Tilehurst and Earley, we build and renovate across the RG postcodes — just a short drive along the M4 from our Slough base.

Pino Construction handles the whole project in-house — drawings, planning, building regulations, construction and finishing — so you deal with one team, one price and one timeline from start to finish.

Types of extension

Whatever your home needs.

Every property is different. We'll recommend the right option for your house, garden and budget at the free site visit.

Single-storey rear

The most popular choice — perfect for open-plan kitchen-diners with bi-fold doors onto the garden.

Double-storey

Add a bedroom and bathroom upstairs and extra living space below, for less than the cost of moving.

Side return

Turn the narrow, unused alley beside a terraced or semi-detached house into valuable floor space.

Wraparound

Combine a side return and rear extension for the biggest open-plan transformation.

FAQs

Good questions.

Do I need planning permission for an extension in Reading?

Many single-storey rear extensions fall under permitted development. Larger, double-storey and side extensions usually need an application to Reading Borough Council (or Wokingham and West Berkshire councils on the edges of town). We check your property at the free site visit and prepare and submit the drawings for you.

Which parts of Reading do you cover?

We cover all of Reading, including Caversham, Tilehurst, Earley, Woodley, Whitley, Emmer Green, Calcot and Lower Earley — and the rest of RG1, RG2, RG4, RG5, RG6, RG30 and RG31. Our team is based in Slough, so we can usually arrange a free site visit within a few days.

How long does a home extension take to build?

It depends on the size and design. A typical single-storey extension usually takes around 10 to 14 weeks on site, and double-storey extensions take longer. You'll get a clear timeline with your quote before any work starts.

Is your quote fixed?

Yes. After the site visit you receive an itemised, fixed-price quote. The price only changes if you decide to change the specification.
